I can't decide on which bike to buy, Thruxton or a T-100. Just sold my Harley and am looking to get my first Brit bike. Tell me you like about each. I like the performance of the Thruxton but I am concerned about the riding position. Do the 2" or 4" clip on's make a big difference? I ride a lot in the city and want to make sure I am not too uncomfortable.

I welcome any and all advice!

There is minimal, if any, performance difference. The 5hp they list on the Triumph website can be obtained with 10 bucks worth of jets and shims.

The Thruxton is a little quicker handling, but you can lower the front end of the T100 to acheive similar results.

The T100 can carry saddlebags, if you think you'll ever want to use them, the Thruxton can only carry tiny bags because of the upswept pipes.

The Thruxton can be uncomfortable, and swapping the clip ons out for other options can be expensive. Changing bars on the T100 is easy. I have some cafe style bars on mine.

T100 is more chromed out, while the Thrux looks like it just rolled out of the Ace Cafe.

Really it boils down to which one you like more. I bought the T100.

Style-wise, do you want a cafe racer or not?

Have you owned or ridden other sport bikes? If so and you found the clip ons comfortable you can decide strictly on style. If comfort is a concern at all - go with the T100 for sure. JCW

I grew up on dirt bikes and Harleys. Never owned a sport bike before. I have always ridden more upright. I thought the T-100 was a slam dunk when I first started looking at a new bike, but the Cafe Thruxton just looks so ***** cool! I just don't want to drop $8K on the bike and another $3K on making it my own and then realizing I hate the riding position. I thought about adding the 2" or 4" clip ons, but does that take away from the cafe look?

Buy what feels right. Both motorcycles are "puss". What is your style. Ask yourself how you want to ride. Full on cafe can be brutal if your not ready for it. Takes time to adjust to the riding position. I have been riding this this clip on, rear set position sense 1970. For me this is normal. Cruiser style feet forward with high wide bars is not me. You decide what fits and enjoy life in the two wheel world. :-D
Respectively yours, Steve. Gear head at large.
:yayyy: The Norton's s shall rise again. :-D
