This weekend I drilled holes in my sprocket cover. Although the process was time-consuming, it was also remarkably easy. I used those wide wood-boring spade drill bits, and then cleaned the holes up with a Dremel tool. What do you think?

I'm not completely pleased with the result (although it looks good in this picture). Although I tried out various patterns of holes before I started drilling, it turns out that there are some large casting plugs on the inside of the sprocket cover that make things difficult.

It ocurred to me that it would be useful to have a bunch of pictures of altered sprocket covers in one place. Toward that goal I hope to load some pics of the new 68 covers in my album. I also ask any of you who have done this send me pictures of your efforts. Let's show people who are considering this mod the possibilities.

Thanks.

That's one of the nicer jobs I've seen. Like the blue fasteners too.

Mancha looks great - I bought the same bits you talked about in an effort to drill my cover - I ended up with the cut out at the rear because I could not come up with a pattern I was happy with - considering the castings in the back of the cover. JCW

No practical purpose whatsoever. Were this a race bike, I could claim that I've removed discs of metal in order to save weight.

By the way, I've added some pictures of various sprocketectomies in my album here. If anyone knows of additional examples, please let me know.
