I dont much care for the turn signals on the Thruxton. They feel really cheap. I'd like to switch them out for something better (I really dig those used on the new Yamaha 600).

Is there anything I should be aware of before swapping them out? I know very little about wiring and would hate to burn something up (i.e. my bike!).

Thanks!

Randy, dang near ANY signals will work if you can make them look good and not just added on. The wiring is the easy part.

It does look pretty straight forward. I noticed in one of the other forums that someone has been having trouble with blown fuses after changing out the signals. Metal housings vs. plastic, grounds etc.

I've been shopping around and came up with a few good ideas, but still got more looking to do.

Most of the blown fuse issues are probably caused by touching wires together or to the frame while testing the light. Most of the lights [if not all] on the Bonnies have separate power and ground wires because the fenders and headlight/signal unit are rubber mounted and thus isolated from the frame/battery ground. If any of the new lights are single filament bulbs and have two wires, its a plug and play deal. If they only have one wire [ie Kuryakyn Silver Bullet] they have a power wire and ground thru the mounting bolt . This is ideal when the lights are relocated to new brackets mounted directly to the frame. If the lights were mounted to an isolated place like the fender,a separate ground wire might have to be run from the existing wire harness, the battery neg. or to the frame nearby and then hooked to the mounting bolt. All very simple. dual filament lights are just as easy, ground the same etc, they just have two power wires.

Are you keeping the stock stoplamp, or swapping for something else? I just got around to switching out the turn and stop/tail lamp this weekend. The turn signals are pretty small, I'd like to see how they look. As ugly as the stock are, they do work well.
