As a point of interest, some of you might be intrigued to discover that the Omar's GT750 cafe is on eBay:

The auction.

Wasn't this kind of bike written up in the last issue of Motorcycle Classics?

And (responding to my own post) here's a CB550 with the Suzuki GS450 tank I'm TRYING to make for my Thruxton:

It's got the same sort of tail section I want to use also.

And on the topic of my tank, the fabricator has dropped off the face of the earth (of course!), taking my tank with him. Who knows what will happen with it?!?!?!

Mancha, I was under the impression that your Suzuki tank modification was a fore gone conclusion. What gives with that? I, like many, followed your tank modifications waiting for the fruition. Is it fortuitous that this mechanical situation came to and end? Did you loose to some unscrupulous Scalawag? Is he findable? Your earlier notes said this man was a tried an true lay out design individual. Were You duped? I AM VERY SORRY to hear of this unfortunate circumstance. My Condolences, Steve Du Bose- MSG

Mancha,

I was having a guy build a tank for my XS650 project bike. The tank never got to him -- funny how that worked. Now he wants another tank and some more $$.

I wish I was a better sheet metal worker, I don't like fiberglass tanks.

I feel your pain. Sorry about the tank. Your Thrux will look cool with that style tank.

He's an old guy who's got some personal problems including a dying wife. His shop used to be pretty much around the corner from me, but with some financial problems, he was forced to move it. As such it's no longer convenient for me to drop in on him. AND he's suddenly unreachable by phone. I don't suspect any kind of intentional foul play on his part (and, in his defense, he was instrumental in making both my fairing and my guage plate), but...

What upsets me is that even if I get the tank back from him, it won't be done. And how will I find someone who can finish the job?

I hope it's not yet a dead project though. The CB above reinforces my hopes for my tank and seat cowl.
