Howdy. To those of you who have flipped your clip-ons, were there any line/cable clearance problems? Any other issues to consider? Also any specific instructions on how you went about it would be much appreciated. thanks!

What does "flipped your clip-ons" mean? Wouldn't that actually make them lower? Now that's something I'd consider.

I believe he means moving the clip-ons from under the top clamp to above the top clamp. This should raise it a couple of inches. I am planning this very thing in conjunction with adding gaiters to my forks. So I am very much looking forward to the answers to this post.

I tried this last weekend and could not simply move the clipons on top because the brake and throttle lines were getting in the way. Perhaps I was not taking enough time as it was cold and I was freezing my a$$ off. I'd appreciate any step by step from those that have done this as well.

I have done this procedure with the stock and now the tomaselli's on the bike currently. The throttle has to be repositioned and the cables routed just so and it will work.(not as critical with stock bars as the tomesallis in the high mounted position) On the clutch cable I had to eliminate the stock lower mount and just added a cable tie further up the frame to keep it from contacting the headers. I used a 41mm fork seal to firmly hold the headlight mounts in place and eliminate the need for a spacer. Sorry I can't be more accurate on exact cable location - I just played around with them until they worked. Pics below may help with throttle location on bars. The bars are shown considerably higher than the stock clip-ons and all stock cables work fine.

Mancha why don't you cut the tube of the headlight mounts shorter (dropping the headlights and the clip-ons). But if you Really want them low mount the clip-ons underneth the headlight bracket  .

this shows the 41mm fork seal (used from the honda F3 lowers when fitted. The grooves in the seal fit perfectly between the headlight mount and fork tube creating a very snug fitment and firmly holding the headlight in place with no spacers. Over 10,000 miles of trouble free use.

Here you can see how the lower cable attachment to the frame was eliminated (and what happens to the cable when it gets to close to the header) the cable tie I added is behind the curve of the header.

Indeed, I was refering to moving the clip-ons above the top clamp. thrux-ton-up, thanks for the pics. It seems relatively straight forward as far as cable relocation. I'm not looking at my bike right now so I may be missing something obvious, but.... basically, you slide the tubes down far enough to be able to remove the clip-ons, then slide the tubes back through the upper clamp far enough to be able to place the clip-ons on top. correct?
one thing I'm not clear about, (again I'm not looking at the bike and this may be obvious, but...) I gather that doing this somehow interferes w/ the headlight mount. how so? any other mods necessary besides the headlight thing and relocating cables?
thanks again....

Actually, I intend to get rid of the tubes and mount the headlight (a tiny bit lower) using a pair of those aluminum brackets. I may then lower the clip-ons a quarter to a half inch by using longer bolts connecting the clip-ons to the top triple tree. Someone here has done this, although I can't remember who.

Okay, so how 'bout this-

If your going to mount your clipons on the top of the upper triple clamp, why not just:

- Remove the upper triple clamp
- Remove the clipons
- Reinstall upper triple clamp
- Install clipons on top of the triple clamp
- Adjust and tighten associated nuts & bolts

You wouldn't have to undo the headlight bracket, but the cable routing might need a bit of adjustment. You wouldn't have to remove the wheel, lower triple clamp, headlight etc.

My Tomaselli's arrived yesterday, and I plan on doing the installation (in the stock position) from the top. Granted, I have to do it from the top since my Thrux has the handlebar kit from Southbay.

My only real concern is that main nut/bolt that runs through the "headstock." A few folks have told me they didn't remember having problems from doing the disassembly from the top- main trouble was routing the cables. Never know till ya try I guess.

Good posts all-

No problems with headlight mounts - what happens when you romove the clip ons from the stock location there is a "gap" where the clip on used to be and nothing to hold the headlight mounts from movement up and down. So a spacer or something else will have to be used to hold the head light tubes in place. With 2 people you could drop a fork leg and remove the clip on and then slide the leg up enough to mount the clip on on top. Cables will probably make it necessary to slide the leg through the clip on while someone holds it on top of the triple clamp and lines up the opening. JCW

I believe that you have to loosen both triple clamps, and slide the tubes up, so that there is space above the upper triple clamp to fasten the clip-ons. In effect, lowering the front end by an inch or so. If you just removed the upper triple clamp and replaced it, the tubes would not protrude above it, and you'd have no place to mount the clip-ons....
