MG from PT,

I don't mind at all. I'll post photos and such too. Its probably going to be a few days before I can get started though; at least by Saturday anyway.

Went to Sears and brought home a few of the tools I'll need (30mm socket, mallet, WD40, etc) so I'm all ready to start-

My gut feeling is the Tomaselli's aren't going to be much (if any) higher then the stock units, but the adjust-ability might make it a bit more... comfortable (for lack of a better word).

Stay tuned

Thruxtonup. Did I ever tell you that your Triumph Motorcycle is a work of art? If I did, than this is double kudos. Steve. You are a true GEAR HEAD.

Hey there Steve,

Just got in from the shed. The operation was a success. Well, mostly.

I followed your advice; "When you pick up a wrench, THINK LOVE, and all will be right with things mechanical."

Here is a brief rundown of the operation:
- Covered the tank
- Removed grips (WD40 worked like a charm)
- Removed the controls
- Removed the clocks
- Removed the upper triple clamp (no problems at all...)
- Removed spacers (black CRK spacers where the clipons resided)

- Installed stock clipons
- Installed stock upper triple clamp (with the gentle assistance of a kind mallet)
- Installed clocks
- Tightened everything down
- Installed grips (the hair-spray tip also worked like a charm)
- Installed controls...
...but wait! Ohh, nuts! The kill-switch housing has a split wiring harness that needs to be fed through the front of the fork, not part through the front and the other 'round back! Then a quick check of the left clutch side... same thing with the light/turn switch housing Closer inspection of the clutch cable housing shows something upsetting- when Southbay installed the CRK, they removed the lower plastic clutch cable "clamp" to compensate for the higher bars. The cable was resting on the oil cooler which had melted through to the cable itself. Lucky me I kept all the old parts and was able to put things right again.

Long story short, I have to remove the triple clamp and clipons again, route all the cables around the front, then re-install everything. Still though, I had a great time

Still have to change the brake pads, install Predator exhaust (which are due to arrive in a day or two), and change the oil. Also need a new chain, but have to wait till payday. Might just let the shop do that one though  Don't think I'm ready to remove the wheel and play with the many spacers (many spacers I'm told).

Also have Isle of Man decals also on their way direct from the island itself :-D

Well, time to pack it in for the night. I'll post the photos tomorrow and keep y'all apprised on my progress.

Thanks for all the help! More to come...

RandyDTFR- If you did all the clip on and triple tree work - the wheels are realy no problem to remove and replace. You will really like the Predators -transforms the riding experience.

Success!!! I too had a productive weekend.
I placed my stock clip-ons above the top triple clamp, and it worked out beautifully! Special thanks to thrux-ton-up and spyder94 for the advice. Taking the wheel off was indeed the easiest way. The whole operation went quite smoothly.
Thrux-ton-up, thanks for the genius fork seal/ headlight sleeve idea. I got a pair of 41mm fork seals online, and they fit like a glove!
Overall impressions are very good. I was a little concerned about how it would look, but the aesthetics are great. By raising the clip-ons/ lowering the front end, the guages actually become more flush w/ the bars and I think actualy look better in that position than stock.
One minor thing is that there are 2 tabs now visible w/ bolt holes where the clip ons used to lock into the upper triple clamp. It doesn't look bad, but I'm going to put bolts in the holes for now, and was thinking this would be a perfect place for a clock and or temp guage mount. Another option would be to grind these off, but I want to ratain the possibility of returning the bike to stock condition.
Also I painted the brake resevoir black, except for a widow to see the fluid level. I will ride it for the first time in this configuration tonight(I forgot my keys!), and will post my impressions of the riding position. Also I'll try to post some pics, but I don't have a digital cam. right now.
Oh, did I mention this mod is completely free?!!! i.e I'd highly recommend it if you want to raise your riding position, retain a stock( or maybe a little better) appearance, and don't wan't to lay out a lot o' moolah :upthumb:

YO! New York City Man. Thrux-ton-up and I thank you for the kudos. I am so glad it worked out perfect for you. There are many "qualified gear heads" on this forum, learn to read the knowledgeable (between the lines) guys verses the procrastinators (wanna be BS artist's). As we all know, knowledge is power, and there is a tremendous amount of power on this forum. Happiness is your Motorcycle the way you want it. Respectively Yours, Steve, ASE Certified.
PS: "I am not Gods gift to all things mechanical, but I sure wish I was!

Interesting topic but nothing has been said about how it affects the handling and perhaps to a lesser extent perhaps the front fork travel.

Any thoughts from those who have done the mod?

Trux-ton-up has done many technical ariticals on this subject on many prior forums. Thrux-ton-up is the guru on this mechanicacal change over. Check prior forums or his personal album. All of the information is there. Thrux-ton man is very informative in the step by step, the parts hunt and all things trivial with such conversions. Good hunting, Thrux-ton-up is the the man to consult :-D
