After much thought and deliberations.........and procrastination I'm ready to take the fender
elimination route , decided on a Lucas tail light ,
still looking at options for turn light blinkers.....more
procrastinations.

Just a short inquiry to those who have "gone before"
(I'm a bit paranoid or is that neurotic?) but will I end
up with a stripe down my back every time it rains, and if
using a "kit " available through several suppliers, will the electrics be completely waterproof, I walk enough already!

thanks again for your experience and expertise. :???:

Moto,if you remove/delete the fender, what will you mount the light to? BTW,Dennis Kirk.com sells the Lucas style tailight and has PAGES of custom turnsignals.I think Thrux-ton up did it best by just chopping off the fender right at the seat. :???:

I took my fender off recently. I bought a tail/brake light and re-used my stock turn signals. It's pretty easy and looks great. I soldered my connections and covered them with shrink tubing so I expect they will hold up to getting wet. There are some pretty good splicing kits around if you don't want to solder. You should be able to waterproof it pretty easily. The problem with the kit is that it costs $250! That's a lot for something you can easily do for a lot less. I got a $5 peice of aluminum at Home Depot and a bracket that was close and cut both down to fit with my Dremel. Cost about $20 and some of my time.

If I had seen it, I probably would have bought this pre-made plate: http://www.compacc.com/new%20catalog...5141p48_lg.htm
It's at the bottom of the page.

I don't know about the water up the back, haven't ridden it in the rain yet. I expect that I will get water thrown up my back though. Part of the deal I guess.

Yeah, you will get some water on your back! I'm going to put my fender back on after I chop it up.. If you only ride in good weather don't sweet it...

no fender = rain on back.

that is, after all, why they make fenders in the first place.

I trimmed the stock fender and repainted - used a billet tail light - fabricated the license mount from 1/8 inch aluminum - moved the kellerman signals by the rear shocks, and use the rear license plate mout as a fender of sorts - still get a little rain on the back - unless you keep the long rear fender this will happen. Never any problems with electrics or water getting in places it shouldn't. JCW

Thanks for the words of wisdom,
Thrux-ton-up your bike looks great, like what you have
done with the rear end.

Either going to reduce existing guard to as small as
possible to take the Lucas tail light or look at 'Baldy' option!
As long as your thinkin it or doin it , life ain't so bad?
