Hi All,
I was relieved when NewBonneville.com made the Oberon pegs available, but then disappointed to learn that they only fit the front pegs. I couldn't switch out the front pegs but leave the rears standard. So, making use of a 30%-off sale at my local every-marque dealership, I picked up some Competition Werkes, black anodized rear pegs.
I just threw them on the bike (forgive me for how dirty it is), and if anyone is interested, you'll find pictures in my album:
Rear Pegs album
Rear pegs come in a variety of configurations, and seem to vary by: 1) the size of the peg hole; 2) the position of the spring hole; 3) the presence or absence of a stop, which prevents the peg from depressing all the way down when the passenger's foot is on it; and 4) the position of the tread. I took off and brought in my Triumph peg for comparison, found the rear peg that looked like the most likely fit (2GPY-BK: there may be a set of Competition Werkes pegs that fits without the Dremel grinding, so you should carefully compare your pegs to what's available), crossed my fingers because the sale item couldn't be returned, and plunked down the debit card.
Installing it turned out to be pretty easy. The peg hole was the correct size, the tread could be said to be in the right position, and the replacement pegs had the required stop. The only problem was the position of the spring hole. Rear pegs are kept in an up position when not in use by means of a spring and ball bearing. When in the up position the spring pushes the ball bearing into a hole, thus preventing the peg from falling into the down position. The replacement pegs I bought had the spring hole on the wrong side. This was easily corrected though: All I had to do was grind a small dimple in the appropriate location using my Dremel tool:
The pegs mounted up just fine, cost only $35 (at 40% off), and are much less obtrusive. I've already ordered the Oberons for the front, and I expect they'll look great together.
