Hello, Ive been reading for the past couple of days about these two different bikes... the bike i am wanting to buy is the thruxton...

i love the way it looks, the price is not bad... and it looks like a REAL bike!

the only problem that im having before i buy this bike is that i still have some questions and i figure this will be the best place to ask them...

I do want to beable to go on longer trips with my buddies and i'm wondering if with the clamp on's do you get a back ache from riding forword all day or is it actually not that bad?

and... if not. how reliable is the bike because i know british bike parts aren't the cheapest in the U.S.

i like the bonnie BUT i LOVE the thruxton i'm torn...any advice/input would be great...

Ben-

well, I guess it depends on what you mean by longer trips, I've done over 300 miles in a day on mine, I ache a little, but I seem to ache on all my bikes after that long, even after doing so, I plan on taking it on even longer trips this summer, now if thats a long trip to you, you should be fine, just remember to use your back a little too, dont rest completely on your wrists, as far as reliable, mine always starts, not too many miles, around 5000 on mine, but I know many guys on here w/ ALOT more, just maintain it well, and it should treat you nice

all in all, I love mine, and I never get tired of looking at it

I've got quite a few miles logged and no issues. the quality is good (much better than the japanese brands) and as long as you do the upkeep, you'll be set. Very basic mechanics with not a lot to go wrong on an air/oil cooled twin. You will have lots of spare time to do mod work, laugh. As far as long rides, not the most comfortable on 300+ mile rides however I continually do it cause I like the bike so much. Besides that's what stopping for a break is for! If you love the thrux then get it!

Having just purchased my Thruxton in November after spending the last few years on vintage & sport bikes............................I can honestly say it is one of the most gratifying bikes I have ever owned.
After a few mods it is becoming harder & harder to pry me off it.

My 1 problem with it?
After crashing my 71 Tiger I couldnt hold on to the clip ons for more than a block without excruciating pain.

I read on this board about the helibars handlebar risers, purchased a set
(Installed in less than 45 minutes so easily).
I can now do 150 to 200 miles without so much as a cramp.

Havent had it long enough to say how reliable it is.....but Ihavent had a hiccup in the first 1000 miles.

My 71 ran like a top...I figure this bike will too.

Good luck whatever you decide.
Thom

One thing with longer trips on the Thruxton (especially here in the spacious west) is the lack of distance per tank of gas. The 790 Bonnie gets a lot better mileage and therefore has much better range. The Thruxton's lack of range has had me sweating a couple of times.

The T-100 has the same motor as the Thruxton and it comes with a slick 2-toned paint job and rubber knee pads. The only difference I can see is the handle bars, fenders, and exhuast (but I think the steering head angle is also different).

If you want to take long trips I'd say get a T-100 and change the bars to fit your style. The price difference is only $300 and considering the handle bar kits for the Thruxton cost $115 (and up), and the knee pads cost $65 I'd say it's a hella good deal.

The tangerine and white is real good looking

Tarmac-- don't forget that the Thruxton has rearsets, aluminum rims, adjustable preload forks and I believe a better front brake.

Agree with you that the T100 is better for touring though. Thruxton is better for quick trips on windy roads and for track days.

If I were buying a brand new Trumpet, I believe a MUCH BETTER value (initial investment) can be found in a Thruxton! I'd simply switch out the clip-on's for bars that I like, then...... (like a basic Bonnie), the SKY'S THE LIMIT!
With the Thruxton, you get better:
Geometry
Brakes
Wheels
Suspension
Seat Cowl
Headers
Factory mufflers

Sexy Thruxton, it's a "no brainer"........
(but I'm certainly not unhappy with my entry level standard BonnieBlack.....)
