Rode my 05' Thruxton (with about 8000 miles on odo) to work this morning. Kind of felt like the power was lacking a little, not enough for alarm, but lacking.
I go to leave for lunch and it just turns over like there's no spark (yes there's gas, it's on, tried venting the cap etc....).
I used the screw driver in spark plug cable to a ground gap and saw nothing....no spark at all.
I work 60 miles from home and have no tools at work, so I had to leave it there.
Has anybody else had this problem? Is it most likely the coil?
That sucks. I don't have a solution, but I sure hope it's not a common thing for 05's! When you get it resolved, please let us know what it was so we can take note.
Didn't happen to hit the shut off switch on the handlebar by accident did you? Could be an electrical connection like loose battery cable. Contol box or coil as you dig deeper. Let us know what you find out. good luck-T1
Bike is at the dealer now. The slightly pissy dealer was able to confirm that it isn't firing. They don't expect to have anything until the end of December.
My money would be on the crankshaft position sensor (ignition pickup coil). My wifes Bonnie had a similar problem. Cost about £40 for the part, took me about 1/2 hour to fit.
Pete_Twizz is the winner! Initial diagnosis by dealer is crankshaft position sensor (ignition pickup coil).
They have submitted a warranty request and should have it repaired in the next week or so. I had no Thruxton over xmas vacation though.....which sucked!
