Pistons rise and fall together, but fire on opposite strokes; when one's on the compression stroke the other's on the exhaust stroke.

Since four strokes equals two revolutions equals 720 degrees, firing on opposite strokes means they're 360 degrees apart.

The cruiser Triumphs have 270 degree engines. These have a split crank, the pistons don't rise and fall together and they sound like V-twins.
