new thruxton owner
just picked up a new 2012 thruxton.
Looking to do a few mods on it and wanted some advice.
First off- I have already ordered the diablo red and white flyscreen. Got it from Bikebandit for $200 ($25 discount for being AMA member and $25 discount for getting a dairyland insurance quote).
My next two mods were going to be a FEK and a new dash plate.
My questions are:
1) of all the FEKs out there, which one is best quality and preserves the look and style of bike? I don't really want a cateye light, for example, because I don't think it fits the bike style. Also, are there any FEKs available that use a small fender type piece to offer protection to battery, etc?
2) are there any new dash plates that use stock 2012 tach and speedo but allow mounting the ignition key on it? Could be billet or black powder coated.

I'm sure somebody will chime in about the D9 brackets, but as for your FEK most of them are basically all the same that I've seen.
Lucas or Cateye style lamp, mounted to a license plate holder. which is then mounted to a plate that fits in place of the fender.
Not sure what you mean by battery protection, as the battery sits down inside the battery box in front of the ECM.

hi.
all FEKs have "something" to protect battery etc... some are part of the battery box, some are short plastic fenders attached to the box, etc... if you want to preserve the look and style of the bike what you want to do is "bob" your fender (ie: leave your existing fender but just cut it shorter). Do a search i think there's a few threads with instructions. As for lights there are lots of options that the vendors sell, some mount to fenders, some to flat brackets (FEK).
as for brackets talk to seth (D9), he will build you anything you want to fit whatever gauges you have (i've have yet to read a forum member not happy with his work)

Either one of the British Customs fender kits would be the go. There is another commonly used kit made by NewThruxton.com but the angle of the tail light is a bit odd. There is another alternative available at triumphperformanceparts.com.au
Check out some posts about the low profile D9 brackets. I have one with my ignition in between the tach and speedo.
Let the modifications begin!

I got the fek from triumphperformanceparts.com.au but sprayed it all black before install looks much better. I also got his newer brushed indicators which match the bike better in my opinion. I'm quite happy with the kit and think the lucus style light is perfect for the thrux I did have an issue with the globes holder rattling loose and causing blown glove and blowing fuses was fixed with some silicon to help support all the globes from vibration seems to be working

If you're good with your hands, bob it. Here's a link to some pics I took of my last fender bob.
http://s669.photobucket.com/albums/v.../Fender%20Bob/
I like it better than the FEK's because it bolts right in where it's supposed to and gives a bit more protection from road spray. Plus I think it looks more old school than the typical FEK's.
You can pick up a used fender off ebay, or get a fiberglass fender from Airtech.

Getting a spare rear fender would be no big deal for me- my thruxton came last week via the shipping company and they scratched the rear fender. They are paying for me to order a brand new one, so I will have a spare.

Here's a couple, but they're a little dark. I usually run without the seat cowl 99% of the time.
