The family has become accustomed to the luxury of back and arm rests (K1200LTC); and, the Thruxton has not generated ANY excitement on their part. To show that dad is not totally insensitive, I'm thinking of putting on the short Triumph back rest. Has anyone done this? I've got a RAT ride on the 18th and want to take my son; however, I doubt he will go for an all-day ride without one.

minimike I used a Gunfighter and Lady seat with backrest from Corbin I bought off of ebay. I did not like the seat myself because the piping dug into the sides of my legs when standing at a stop light or what ever- not very comfortable, but the wife liked the seat and backrest. I could not get used to the look of that seat on a cafe bike and sold it to a fellow Bonneville T-100 owner. The back rest will make it easier on both of you when riding. JCW

Hanson, don`t ever say that to a nine year old boy who WANTS to ride with his dad. Any back rest that will break the death grip on a video game controller is a part worth having. :-D

Please, allow me to tell you how to spend your money.......
I believe your best value can be found in the purchase of a Ventura Rack system. By mounting a pair of discrete 'L' shaped brackets to your bike, you can choose to run.......
1) Nothing
2) A grab rail
3) Luggage rack with a short rise for a *passenger pad
4) Luggage rack with a tall rise for carrying the Ventura luggage (a WIDE variety to choose from).
5) Choose to hover the luggage rack (and luggage) over the passenger seat for a more centralized mass.
6) Choose to rest the Ventura luggage on the passenger seat (while attaching it to the rack), and put your tent on the luggage rack hovering over the rear wheel.
Now THIS is where I have to insert a very important disclaimer, simply because I don't want to suggest something that Ventura may be advising against:
I noticed that Ventura said that the taller rack on the luggage carrier system NOT be used for a passenger to lean against! And judging from the set-up, I would tend to agree.
- However -
Though for liability reasons, Ventura would still insist that it was ill-advised to use the shorter rack for a passenger to lean against...... if you put your own pad on there, it may be perfect as a butt stop for your passenger's lower-back/butt.
Something to consider.
:-D

Thanks for the advice guys. I'm not excited about the back rest; but neither am I excited about the kids missing out on going for a ride. My parts shopping list for the bike is long and a back rest wasn't on the list. Dad's sacrifice, nature of the job, so I'll order a back rest.
I'll just get really good at putting it on and taking it off. :hihi:

I have a bonnie, but use the thrux seat and cowl. It actually looks more like a thrux than a bonnie, but anyway, i got the tall triumph sissy bar for my son and wife to ride on the back and it works well.
i keep the mounting bar on and just take of the cowl and mount the backrest for when I take my son or wife for a ride - takes only a couple of minutes.
works well and actually doesnt look too bad with it on.

faffyface,
Just the info I needed. Made me feel better because I ordered the back rest this morning. It should be in before the RAT ride this Sunday. I'll post a picture after I install it.
Post some pics of the Orlando and Spring Hill RAT's getting together this Sunday too!

I got home from work last night late; so, the back rest was the only thing I got installed. It looks a lot better than I thought it would. Tonight's the center stand and the Heritage badges turn.
The Scrambler gaiters, skid plate, and clear fly screen were all back ordered from Triumph.

My kit came with 4 small black plastic plugs, I'm assuming that they are for plugging the holes of the rail when you take the back rest off. Did your kit have them too?
