Went out yesterday and about 14 miles into my ride went to make a right turn at a junction.
The clutch suddenly became very stiff and I struggled to get into 1st gear as I approached stationary traffic.
Got it into first and keep it moving until I cleared the junction and then had to slow to a stop knowing that I couldn't get neutral.
Managed to stop and stall at the same time.
Cable is fine, not too tight....rang the garage and they said sounds like the clutch itself.

Ice was forming on the seat as I waited for the recovery truck. A lovely lady who lived locally passed me earlier to ask if I was ok and then drove back about 15 minutes later with a cup of hot tea....very much appreciated.

Should get it to the garage on Monday so see they say then......bit concerned though.

Let us know what they find out when they check the bike out. This is a new one on me.

Sounds very similar to a problem I once had with a Kawasaki Zephyr. The release cam (on the other end of the rod which is visible at the primary drive case with the arm and cable attached) was damaged, causing a very heavy lever and insufficient movement of the clutch. It is the resticted clutch movement that causes the clutch to drag, leading to difficult gear engagement.
If it is the release cam, the good news is the part is not expensive.

Good luck,

Pete.

Right, got it back.
Apparently there is a bolt which holds the clutch together and a type of washer which spreads when tightened to lock it in place.
This failed and the bolt came lose which locked the clutch.

The bolt, washer, gasket/seal has been replaced and all is ok again.
All the clutch plates were checked ok.
