Since my first service (500 miles), my bike has started with a much lower idle with the choke out. Even when the weather was still warm it would only go up to just over 1000 rmp when started cold. Now that the weather has become cold and damp, it takes me 3 to 4 tries to get the bike to even start with the choke all out. I took it into the dealer shortly after the first service and they just adjusted the idle screw which did nothing.

Many of you seem to know a lot about bikes. Any thoughts on what this might be and do all of the Thruxtons out there go up to the apparent correct 2500 rmp with the choke out?

Thanks,
Springbok

If your bike is stock and you've made no jetting, intake or exhaust mods then I bet all is ok. Sounds like you are using too much choke. You only need to choke enough to help it start and idle smoothly. I've never used full choke myself, even when 30-40 degrees out. 2500 rpm is high for idling. Choke to keep it around 1000-1500 rpm range and as it warms up tap the choke in a bit. Should only take a minute or two. Then ride away!

Mine starts up readily, and typically goes to 2500 RPM within the time it takes me to do a quick walkaround inspection, put on my gloves and helmet, and throw a leg over. At that point I push the choke almost all the way in, and start riding. It sometimes requires a throttle blip or two at idle until fully warmed up.
