 When I went to put on my new bar end mirrors onto my 2004 Thruxton, I took out the bar end bolt and end cap. Inside the handlebar was a piece of metal (into which the bar end bolt fits). This piece extends out about 1/8-inch and is too narrow to mount the bar end mirror on. I tried to pull out this piece of metal but with no success. I am thinking that perhaps it is held on with a "pressure fit", like the one on the adapter for the mirror. Can I just tap on it to release the pressure fit, or do I need to do something more radical like drill out the piece? Also, does it make any sense to just re-bolt a spacer onto the piece of metal to make it thicker, so that I can attach the bar end mirror without an adapter? Thanks.
