Went out to buy some Triumph gear yesterday, and noticed that of the two shirts I bought, both have the old school style logo.

By old school I mean the r's swoosh goes around the outside of the h, instead of ending in front of it.

Every other logo is the newer one, including all the bikes badges, so what gives? I had heard they could not use the old logo for legal reasons. Don't get me wrong I like it either way I just found the change interesting.

cheers, jason

There`s an old Triumph,BSA,Norton shop in Tacoma that has all old style logo stickers and patches. He has had them since the old Triumph was the new Triumph.Almost all the shirt and jacket websites I `ve looked at are old logo. :???:

I don't know of any reason why they can't use it. And in fact, they did bring out a limited run of what they called "corporate wear" last year with the late Meriden-era logo on them. That's probably what you bought some of.

There's no legal limitations to Hinckley, or firms working with Hinckley's consent , using any old Triumph logo, since John bloor bought the name :

Quote:
Property developer and self-made millionaire John Bloor rescued the Triumph name and a new, privately owned company - Triumph Motorcycles Limited - was born. Initially Devon-based firm Racing Spares (who’d previously been making parts for Triumph) were licensed to build the final incarnation of the Bonneville, principally to keep the Triumph marque alive, while the new company laid plans for Triumph’s return to the world stage.
So Triumph can do with it whatever they want, however any use of one of the Triumph logo's (for commercial practices) without the factory's consent would have to be considered illegal.

Bloor knows that a lot of people like the old logo. I bet he authorized as it would mean extra sales.
