Hey all,

Recently my Sprint ST has been down while I wait for parts/repairs and I have been really riding my Thruxton with more confidence (=speed in the corners). I have been reading my MOM and had questions regarding rubber replacement. First, the Thrux has tube tires yes? 2nd has anyone replaced the rubber with anything other then the Metz Z2? If so, what kind and how was the ride altered? I have 5000 miles on them, what can I expect for mileage? Just starting to think ahead. E

The most common switches seem to be dunlop 501's and Avon 45/46, Some Perelli Demons. I went to the Avons with a 140 rear and I am very happy with the ride and handling. Yes they are tubless. If you go to Butyl tubes you will have much less loss of air over time than with the natural rubber tubes that are on the bike now.-good luck-T1

Iinstalled a set of Battlax BT020 on the bike at 5500 miles, a 150 on the rear and a 110 on front. They lasted until 13500 miles, and I have just installed Dunlops GT 501's a 140 rear and a 110 on front. The Bias design of the Dunlops seems to ride a little smoother than the Battlax radials did. I only have 100 miles or so on the Dunlops - but think I will end up liking them better. JCW

Any specific reason for pulling back from the 150 to a 140 on the rear..?

have search through here and you find a post i did a while ago, listing quite a few modern tyres that fit

the only radial that does say 140/17 and 11/18 are the avons - all the rest are 150/17

but you can get a number of modern crossplys thats do 140/17 and 110/18

No reason other than 150 is pushing the limit on the rim width and this can alter the profile of the tire because it is pinched in to fit on the rim, but the Battlax worked great for me with a 150 size rear. The shop told me to take it easy at first because the turn in would be different with this width tire (the 150 Battlax) on the rim. JCW

Anyone try the Dunlop D205 Radials on a Thruxton? Dunlop offers these tyres in a 140/80ZR17 for 3.5" rear rims and 110/80ZR18 for 2.5" front rims.

I run these on my 1992 CB750 and they're great.
