Installed an aftermarket Givi Flyscreen (Model A750) on my Thruxton a little over a week ago. It is a bit bigger than the Triumph screen, but I believe still matches the bike look and feel quite well. Bought it on the advice of the owner of the local Triumph/Ducati dealer, as his daily driver is an 04 Thruxton and he went through 2-3 screens before finally settling on this one. I do think I will get rid of that nasty gel cap logo though.

Hard to really tell what it looks like from this angle. How about a full side view?

Don't know if this is much better, but here you go. Probably gives a bit better perspective regarding size and style.

Looks good but you need to get rid of the rabbit ear mirrors. I fitted Napoleon bar ends at the weekend and it's amazing how they change the look of the bike. Bit of modification needed but no big deal

Thanks for the advice. Have been looking at bar-ends for a while, and think that they would look very nice. Think I might make that next weekend's project.

OHMYGOD there is some good stuff here in the Café corner!

I mounted a Give A750 to my Beemer Roadster a few years ago..... looks like the same screen as you have pictured. After a couple thousand miles of watching the darn thing dance & wiggle in the wind, I felt I had nothing to lose by trimming down the windshield.

- WOW! -

As a result of chopping the screen's windshield down, I got less turbulence, reduced wind noise, and no more wiggle of the shield. Check it out on my 2002 R1150RA; 60,000 miles on that bad boy..... I loved that bike!

I bought the Napoleon bar end mirrors from NewBonneville. I'd read the threads and knew in advance that some mods were needed.

What I didn't realise was that the bars are solid (showing my age I guess - bars have always been pipe section in my life).

Basically I drilled the existing hole in the end of the bar to 17/64" and then counterbored 1/2" depth of this hole to 13/32" (necessary to allow for the unthreaded part of the bolt). I then tapped the hole using an 8 mm plug tap. I used plenty of cutting oil - the aluminium swarf clogs the tap very quickly.

I then cut off the part of the mirror casting that goes into the bar.

From there it was just a matter of attaching the mirror using the bolt that came with it.

I could have gotten away with a shorter bolt . Having removed the insert friction is the only thing to stop the mirrror spinning on the bar I but I figured the longer the bolt the better. I used locktite on the threads and have now ridden 200 km and the mirrors are still tight. Time will tell.

When fitting the mirror I used the plastic and steel spacers that came with them. These serve to ensure that the mirror stands off the end of the bar a little and minimise any chance of fouling the end of the twist grip. Jamming the throttle open could be an interesting experience!!!!

The end result is I can now see where I've been and any four wheel drive about to tail end me at the traffic lights. Much better than a close up of my forearm. The bike also looks so much different. My wife says it looks lower and more broad shouldered. Couldn't have said it better myself

Anyway good luck with it

Idaho,

If your not comfy with threading out the stock bar, and wish to keep it "stock" there is another way (or two) to mount the Napoleon bar ends. They can't be beat for bang for the buck, though I may go with some pricier ones down the road. Vision is greatly improved over stock, and it gives the bike the correct cafe look.

1. Order two mirrors (no left or right needed, either fits both sides). I tend to order from newthruxton.com but Bella Corsa and others carry them (so may your local dealer).

2. Do a search on this site for Bar end installs or Napoleon, many good ideas on mounting.

3. I purchased some bolts the same thread, but longer (don't have specifics right now - will post later) as well as aluminum spacers that the bolt fits through about 1" long.

4. Remove the large bolt that comes with the mirrors and then cut the black rubber spacer slightly larger the the metal insert on the mirror (where they mount to the bar).

5. Placed the cut rubber spacer back on, slipped the new bolt through and then the aluminum spacer over the bolt (this adds some strength).

6. Put some locktite on the bolt, installed on the stock hole (after removal of the bar end piece). Tightened securely (rubber washer will compress some).

7. As others have suggested, the stock mirror mounts can simply be removed and re-installed "upside down" to clean up the bars. I also suggest a "Problem Solver" nylon cap to insert into the open mount holes.

8. I have also installed a black nylon "cap" over the mirror mount bolt cap to clean up the install.

Good luck and enjoy!
