What is the best way to remove the decal on the top of the tank, you know, the one that has the helmet on it and the gas pump. Not the checkers. I tried pulling up a corner and it looks like only the clear part is coming off.

Heat it up with a hair dryer and it'll peel right off. A little rubbing alcohol will take the rest of the adhesive off.

nope heat it up nicely with a hair dryer NOT a heat gun and it glue will get tacky and most of it will peel off with the sticker - then a little metho or similar with clear the rest off

dont rush it and all will be good

Another method that works very well and doesn't involve heat is to:
a) Peel the sticker off
b) Using a clean rag or paper towel, rub the sticky area with olive oil (about a tablespoons worth will do) until the residue is gone.
c) Clean the area with some type of general cleaner or detergent that cuts the oil.

Learned this from my wife who has used this method to clean sticky toys at our church pre-school.

Plus, the olive oil will help your bike have more healthy cholesterol. That's why they use exclusively top-grade extra virgin olive oil for the bevel gears on vintage Ducs.

Now, the older Britbikes were lubed with a mixture of rendered lard and hydrogenated palm oil (the same stuff that fish was fried in) which ate away at the gaskets in the old split crankcases and led to all those stories about waking up in the morning and finding the old girl in a pool of oil.

Thank goodness they have moved on to synthetic, though I now have to buy it in a plastic jug rather than just begging out behind the local H. Salt Fish n Chips shop. Oh well, it's still a good place to meet girls.
