It seems everyone replaces OEM pipes w/(insert $400 plus) aftermkt silencers....Has anyone bought these pipes from Specialty Spares for $169.00 ? Quality? Fit? Finish? Sound?
Of course a sound clip would be appreciated...

I have the Specialty Spares Dunstall replicas on my Thruxton. No problems with fit or finish and the pipes rock - that is, they are LOUD.

I have the Specialty Spares Exhaust system on my Thrux (the bike in the picture for the Thruxton pipes at the Specialty Spares site is actually my bike!).

They are nice and rumbly at idle, and they scream at speed. I cruise around in town at around 3500 to 4500 RPM, and I cause a lot of ruckus with these pipes doing so. They are loud, but not ear splitting loud (keep in mind, that to me, loud to me is a Harley running straight small diameter drag pipes) "Seat of the pants" dyno also feels like she revs a lot faster, and I have picked up some low end pop (I get to the ton quicker). I did remove the AIS though due to popping during decel. I did not have to re-jet either, just 3 turns out on the PMS screws and everything was tight (Started running cooler as well).

Quality is ok (considering it is only $169.00 for the cans), fit required a little "aligning" that you would not have to deal with if you were installing D&D's, etc (there is a adaptor that comes with the kit, so you have to align at 3 places instead of 2 with D&D's Predators, etc.). Finish is good, but not top notch.

I posted a video a while back, but I have since taken it offline (if you want it, email me - it is big). Here is a link to Jespo's website with some pics and a video on page 2:

Wow, those sound the best to me!
Really like the very deep rumble at idle especially.

Dan -

DO you want to sit up straight and ride at a relaxed pace. Or do you want to grab the beastie by the horns & ride at maximum lean whilst doin your best Valentino Rossi impersonation.

That is the question ?

It's just a matter of taste.

Cheers, Cyn-

P.S. - I think the new Thunderbike 2 into 1 is extemely sexy on a Thrux. Long as you don't want a centerstand and can modify a lift to work...

I also think the Thunderbike mufflers for the Thrux are the best sounding of the lot. Finally got to hear all the pipes in person this summer.

At 42 bucks a pop you can't go wrong!
That's right - 42 bucks. Get them at jcwhitney.com, pick out an exhaust for a 69 bonnie and select the shorty megaphones. JCwhitney has them and the dunstall replicas as well. Baffles are removable and can be packed to your liking with fiberglass tape, newspaper or halfzware shag if you please.

Uncleblue,

What connector pipe do you use with the JC Whitney mufflers? Is it the same as the Specialty Spares connector pipe?

Thanks

I was turned off by the outrageous prices for aftermarket mufflers for the Thruxtons.

I purchased a set of Specialty Spares for $169.00 (US). They look and sound great!
