Im looking for new silencers for the Thruxton, and I was wondering what most people thought of either the Predators or TORs. I did a search and couldnt find clips of either, but maybe I did it wrong. But if anyone had any imput or clips it would help tons.

Pretty sure the TORs weigh a lot more than the Predators.

I can't comment on the sound of the Predators or their weight in comparison to the TORs. But to answere your question, I love the sound of my TORs.

I was talking to a gentleman that owned several Triumph twins back in the 60's and 70's and he was saying how disapointed he was with the sound of his buddie's new Bonnie. I fired up my bike and rev'd it a few times. I could see the smile come across his face. When I shut it down he said "now THATS how a Triumph should sound." I couldn't agree more.

And if I remember correctly there is a thread floating around here somewhere that has comparison clips.

Chances are, you'll be happy with whichever you choose.

Don't know about the weight difference but the TOR's give a great old fashioned Triumph growl. Sometimes I ride for a while with just one earplug in, just so I can hear my Thrux a little better. Also haven't got any complaints from the neighbors. There was a sound clip on the Forum a couple of months back. I think the Predators are a bit raspier and neither are as loud as the D&Ds.

Enjoy

I really like the TORs sound. They rumble and are definitely audible while not barking or giving that raw raspy sound that just plain hurts (like so many Harley riding pin heads). I have a buddy in town with the Predators on his Thrux. They sound superb and look cool, but are noticably louder than the TOR pipes. My purchase was based upon the TORs sounding really good, looking good and not being as likely to p. off my neighbors. I do ride through residential neighborhoods a lot and didn't want to be more of nuisance that I already am. I've been stopped before by the fuzz while riding my old ninja 600 with the D&Ds on it. It's not fun trying to explain your way out of that.

I just put a set of the Predators on and I love the sound and performance. You should be able to get a sound clip off of the British Customs web site. The address below will take you right to the page. Enjoy.

Everyonce in a while I have to ride though a pretty populated area and Ive seen some harley guys get pulled over because of their pipes, so loudness is somewhat of a concern but as long as the pipes arnt too bad. Also, I know theres some performance gain with the Predators, what about the TORs?

The predators I have sound great but are very loud. The TORs sound much closer to what a stock 1969 Bonneville sounds like. They sound about the same as the exhaust on my 51 Tiger. They (Predators) are nearly at the other end of the noise spectrum compared to the the TORs - with stock pipes being the most quiet and D&Ds at the top of the noise list for pipes I've personally heard. Stain Tunes seem a little louder than TORs and Norman Hydes being in the mid area. The Moto Twin pipes I heard when riding with RaceDweeb are a good all around pipe - pretty quiet at idle - moderate at midrange and a step below predators at WFO. I have heard the Thunderbike pipes and they sound very nice too. The truth is all these pipes sound great on Triumph twins. You just need to decide where you want to be concerning noise level. JCW.

I was going to get the Predators, but I am starting to think they may be a little too loud. The cops tend to really crack down on noise restrictions around me. Ill have to look at the Staintunes though. They look good in all the pictures.

Make no mistake, the Predators are quite loud. They are not as loud as the Harley that sets off car alarms miles away, but they are really loud. I had the same concerns as you but ended up buying the Predators because 1) they're stainless and will last forever, 2) they look the best with the huge rear outlet and beautifully finished welds, 3) they fit the bike better than stock, giving you slightly more clearance, 4) they're really light, and 5) the sound is excellent, really deep and "thumpy". They're also not that much more expensive than the TORs.

I've had to start wearing earplugs and be more careful with my neighbors (keeping the rpms down in the neighborhood), but the sound is just so great that I think it's worth it. So far I've had no complaints, and the local cop waved to me the other day. The Predators are really great on track days, my bike is the best sounding bike there, sounds like a vintage race bike.

On the other hand, don't forget that the TORs are the only mufflers that will work with the Thruxton center stand.

To be honest, you'll probably be happy with either choice.
