Hi Guys,

After lurking for a few weeks in finally bought a Thruxton at the weekend.

A few observations - bear in mind this is from someone who traded up (!) from ZX6.

1. It feels slow!! - However after about 1/2 an hour I begin to stop revving the bike to the limit and ride the torque it makes much more sense!!

2. Suspension seems really uncontrolled to the point of feeling dangerous - I subsequently wound the rear preload up to max and although they still feel bouncy the bike now kinda wants to turn in. Front is way too soft so bounces up when letting of the brakes into a turn - so new fork springs are in order methinks. Has anyone used standard length shocks but pulled the forks up through the yokes? I think this would get the bike steering quicker although I would'nt like to create a slap happy monster.

3. I have had more admiring glances and people coming over for a chat on this bike this weekend than any other bike I have owned (around 10 inc Ducatis) - fantastic pose!!!

Great board - full of useful info + humour.

Look forward to sharing my experiences on this wonderful motorcycle with you.

Dave.

PS does anyone have a soft copy of the Thruxton owners manual as I haven't got one?

Have you used the preload adjusters on the forks yet?Might help until you get new springs. :???:

Lion77, congrats on your new Thruxton. I also bought a new Thruxton this weekend, but have yet to take delivery of the bike. Will do so after the holiday weekend.

I think that your experience with admiration of your bike must be quite common to Thruxton owners. A number of people pointed to the bike that I was test riding while I was stopped in traffic.

Best,
Jon.

Thanks Guys,

I've maxed the preload on the back in order to get the bike to turn in quicker. This makes quite a difference although it still needs a bit of 'body english' to turn.

The front preload is nearly at max so I'll try a bit more to see if this cures the bouncing.

The rear light assembly has to go - any ideas on a stylish replacement??

Dave.

Check out the upscale Nitros from Hagon or the cheap-o $179 bits from Hagon. I've got the cheap-os and they are phenomenally better than the stock shocks. Night and day.
