These seem to be catching on in the local squid population. First, it was a guy on a Buell with some hideous orange tires, then a guy on an R1 with a huge fat yellow rear. The tire, I mean.
These are about the silliest things I've seen in a while. Though they do make it awfully easy to see how wide the "chicken strips" are. In the case of these bikes, they were about 80% of the tire.

I hate to admit it here, but I kind of like the idea of colored tires (although not for my Thruxton of course). The problem is, as you hint, they get dirty really fast (and the color NEVER matches the bike). Black seems like a good color for the part of a verhicle that gets the most contact with the dirt and grime of the road.

If I remember correctly, these tires are re-treds.

Retreads on a motorcycle... does anyone else find that idea as terrifying as I do?

Retreads...that ought to thin the herd at the local Tagem-and-bagem MC

I don't think I'd ever get tires like that for either of my bikes. But to each his own. Motorcycling, at its core is about freedom and individuality. If we start to mock the guys who get rainbow colored tires, aren't we just as bad as the Harley guys who look down on anything not made in Milwaukee? I'm sure there are lots of people who think spokes, clip-ons and fork gaiters are lame. (thud) That's the sound of me falling off my soap box...

Great comment. When I was reading the SV list someone came on and said something about having ridden a wheelie (sp?) past a bunch of HD riders and how they must have felt pretty foolish watching him smoke them. Of course what's cool to one motorcyclist can be pretty absurd to another, and I'm sure the HD riders thought this guy was just some imbecile (as did I, for that matter).
I've always liked the Cyclone M2 by the way. They stopped making them the year I decided to bite the bullet and buy a bike. Probably best though. I test drove a Lightning last year and was less than impressed. It had great torque, but I felt like I was perched right over the front wheel, and the shifting was a little clunky.
