I know speed cost money, but what can one expect out of the Thruxton and at what cost?

Very dependent on what you can do yourself. Pipes, K&N individual filters and jetting are worth about 10 HP and 10lb-ft which would be about 65hp at the rear wheel. Check out my album under the T's and thruxton mods for more info-good luck-Thruxtonone

The bike is pretty cool, but it is a turd at the end of the day  A guy could tie a load of dough into one, and have a fairly expensive, slow bike.

The basic things that Thruxtonone mentioned +

--a thinner head gasket for more compression and better squish tolerances (thin single layer steel and maybe bin the base gasket?),
--a 4* static advance in the ignition timing (offset woodruff key for the signal generator? Or move the pickup?)
--perhaps some more rev-friendly valve timing (790 cams, maybe?)
These things would probably liven the thing up a good little bit without spending a whole pile of dough. Okay, the cams would probably be ridiculously priced, but two out of three ain't bad.

Even after whatever mods a fellow would choose on any budget, there is a good chance that a Bandit 600 would run away and hide from a Thruxton pilot. That is not to say that the bike can't be ridden quickly, because it can and is pretty surprising to some folks, it just doesn't accelerate very hard. Very...momentum driven, if you will.

Let's keep in mind that it's only relative comparing it to other similar capacity, twin cylinder, air-cooled, carburetted bikes.

I can't think of too many........

1. HD 883 Sportser 69Nm @ 4300RPM
2. .................?
3. ....................?
4. ......................?

Can't stay out of this one. I'm compelled to comment. Didn't wanna do it, but I can't help myself...

IT'S A FREAKING 450+ LB CARBURATED TWIN FOR CHRIST SAKES!

I modded mine for sound, style and comfort. If I picked up a couple of hp in the process(flipped mirror posts :-D ) then all the better.

Why would anyone buy a bike they knew would not meet their performance expectations? Wot's up wit dat? :???:

ps - turd?????????? Is there a banana in your tailpipe? :-D

I knew the Thrux must be a "turd"!!! Everyday when riding I always have a sh*t eating grin on my face :-D I also agree with ya Buggy. I love everything about this bike, good and bad. Yesterday I got caught in a nasty thunderstorm while running errands and grocery shopping and my brake light stayed on and flashed whenever I gave it throttle (modulator bulb). Made me think about the old Lucas systems and I laughed all the way home soaking wet. Mod work is a blast on this bike.

Hey men, I didn't expect to hurt any feelings with my post. As you can see, I own a Thrux, and I enjoy it nearly every day.

A Speed4 rider asked about performance, so I gave what I percieved to be an honest summary of the Thruxton performance, and things that I believe would potentially increase that performance.

He never asked how anyone feels when they ride their Thrux, or how it sounds or if the thing generates thumbs up from passersby. He didn't ask for a comparison to any other bike, either. ( I just used the Bandit600 to add color and perspective) I am just willing to call things as I see them. I never said that the bike was undesirable or inferior, just that it is slow.

:-D :-D Keep a light heart, Guys!

I got it!

You went with a 39 tooth front sprocket.

That's it, isn't it?

That would explain everything!

I feel so much better now...phew!
