Wrapped and Tagged

Well FINALLY got my Service Manual in (and it is a new one with EFI data if anyone needs me to look up stuff for ya) and had a day off.

Hamilton has been feeling neglected as of late due to the hours I’ve been working. But he didn’t know I hadn’t forget about him.

Took him in and had him Tagged (Name & Birth Place) and then brought him home and Wrapped him up (it is getting chilly here in FL at night).

One more Tag to go and that will be here this weekend from the UK.

Did you notice any difference in the engine performance, idling, sound etc once you had wrapped the exhaust?

To soon to tell. Just got it on, took him down the road a bit to let the wrap heat up so it would dry (put it on wet as per instructions) then came home and cleaned him up a little. Will be checking that over the next few days.

Though I did notice a sound difference when I fired him up for a minute or so without the mufflers on the pipes.

The manual is a hard copy.

you're not going to notice any difference in sound from the wrapped exhaust. it's just for show.

It's for more than just show. It is used to keep heat away from ANYTHING near the pipes. The only trade off is the excelled degradation of the pipe itself.

i only wrapped my pipes because i had a minor 'off' and just barely scratched the header, and instead of replacing the headers i just wrapped them. i like how it gives the pipes a thicker look and will admit was never previously a fan of the header wrap, but like it a lot now.

SB, I also like the thicker look of the header with wrapping. From what i have read sounds like once I go wrapped then there is no going back to naked ie options are either header replacement or strip to stainless or ceremic coated. Which colour did you go with and did you go all the way to the muffler?

Looks good. The first time I wrapped I did one header, cut the wrap and ran out a few inches shy on the other one Needless to say the next time I unrolled it all, cut it in half, and then started. I also zip tied the ends so they wouldn't unralvel and rinsed the pieces in a bucket of water 5 or 6 times(until the water came out clear) to get all the factory gunk off. I found color distortion occurred on the tan wrap(at least the brand they keep in stock at Kragen, anyway) if it is installed right out of the box.
