Airbox again sorry:)

Hi All
I know this has probably been beat to death before. But i have some spare money come my way and don't want to spend it on anything responsible because quite frankly i don't feel like it I want to do some mods to my Thrux. I have the Predators already and love them. I have been thinking of the airbox removal. What are the real gains on this mod? I guess it would need some rejetting? Also the noise increase, is it a lot?

Also i want to change out the ugly stock mirrors any suggestions on bar end mirrors i was a little concerned they would get clipped too easily. There are some nice ones i saw on a bonneville black finish and very small oval shape. I saw some other type on the British custom site called napoleon style, i was wondering if any of you have them?
Cheers John.

After modding my own airbox, I didn't notice a lot more noise. A little, but not a lot. The performance gains were definitely worth doing the work though! Will certainly need to re-jet for that.

I had the napoleon mirrors and didn't really care for them much. I went with the CRG billet style mirrors and like those a lot more. Nice picture and very little vibration.

+1 on the CRG's. I love mine. I can see behind me with no elbows blocking the view and they don't vibrate at all. And if you want to get the most out of your Predators you have to do something about the air intake. You can't breathe out if you can't breathe in.

A fairly dramatic increase in performance and power output.
Which will transform your bike.

Not a lot, just a bit!
But induction noise is good anyway!
And wont be as loud as the exhaust.

I kept things in stock trim for the first year, but quickly added Preds, and modified my Airbox at the start of this years riding season.
What a difference it makes ! She actually Revs past 6000rpm , and pulls hard. Their is a re-jet needed. Do a quick search and you will most likely find ballpark specs for your application.

Noise level ??? You bought Preds .....enjoy them !
+2 on the CRG Lane-Spliter

Thanks guys.

As far as rejetting, is that something i can do without to much trouble and will the carbs need balancing after?
Also how do i know i have it right?
Cheers John.

Jetting is not a hard thing to do. If you have the right tools it can be done without ever taking the carbs off of the bike, but it can be done with nothing more than a small screwdriver and the D tool for the idle screws. I usually take the carbs off the manifolds so that I can lean them to one side and get underneath them.

Instead of spending 200 bucks on that airbox removal kit spend $50 on a smaller battery and some wire/splices and put the battery under the seat. It takes a little longer but in my opinion it makes the bike look 10x better.

I'm not sure i'm understanding that. The battery is under the seat?
Cheers John

I'm assuming your bike is a non EFI model? If it is then the Airbox Removal is the way to go - if you have an EFI model then no I would not recommend it - the better way to go would be an Arrow System with a stage II remapping - doing the airbox removal on an EFI model is a waste of money for the limted gain.

On the topic of Bar End Mirrors - way better looks wise than the Micky Mouse ears. No real problem with clipping anything - l;ane splitting is reduced but heh who cares. I have the Napoleon bar end mirrors. Napoleon also provide the OEM ones for Triumph.
