Advice on bring the bars up?

I am an old fart with a bad back but i bought a Thruxton anyway. I love the bike but need to get the handlebars up some. Heli-bars or new handlebars both may work but I would love advice from anyone that has some knowledge and has made the mod.

I’m most certainly sure there are as many answers out there as there are riders (or at least opinions). When I bought my 04 Thruxton the Original Owner had converted her to handle bars. I rode her for 7 months this way and just changed her over to custom set of Clip-Ons. OMG what a difference in the way the bike feels, handles, and looks. SO much happier, I’m about 2-1/2” shorter than the bars were, but 4” higher than the stock clip-ons, I’m going to get some lower legs for mine to actually lower them a bit more. I’ve got longer arms, and prefer them actually a touch lower.
My advice would be to find some local riders with different combinations to see what feels, and looks right to You and go from there.

You can take the stock bars(B) from under the upper triple clamp (A), and reinstall them on top of the clamp.
http://www.triumphrat.net/memberalbu.../size/big/cat/
You have to slide the tubes up in the clamps 1", so this raises the bars by 2", and lowers the front of the bike by 1". Makes a HUGE difference in comfort, no steering problems in 13,000 miles.
I drilled down through the "ears" at "C" to make a dimple in the top clamp, then installed two machine screws with nuts under the ears to dress the existing holes and to prevent bar rotation.

A lot depends on your price range.

price is not an issue

I really like the bike so I am willing to spend some coin to be able to ride it.

What year is your bike ? I did the "Flip & Swap" mod this summer. Simply remover your clip-on's, flip and swap to the other side.(I kept them below the top yoke) It was a noticable change gained about 1.5" rise.

Just making sure you had Clip-on's. Why not try this mod or redhawks version of this mod ? It's free, just takes a bit of your time.
If you go this route you my want to start with redhawks version first only because you are not fliping them or swaping them. You will not have too remove all of the hard ware that is on both R&L bars. They are just being mounted above your top yoke. Beware there are pro/cons to both version.

Raise only don't swap sides

READ REDHAWKS POST AND FOLLOW THE LINK ON HIS POST
That link shows a how to that is so EASY.
I just did this mod to my Thruxton, it's great
cost nearly nothing...and EASY to do and looks STOCK.
but I might add DO NOT SWAP SIDES,
just move the clip ons to above the triple clamps
is what you want to gain 2" in bar height.

Moving the stock clipons to the top of the yolk is probably the easiest and most cost efficient way to do it. I switched to an LSL upper with some drag bars. I loved it, but decided recently to switch to Ace bars and now I'm a little lower than the clipons were, so I'm probably not the best person to take advice from, haha.
