Alloy tanks

I've been mulling over fitting an alloy tank. Thing is those made specialy for the Hinkley bikes are damned expensive, have a long wait time and are big long and need a seat replacement or cut and cover job all adding to the expense. I realy like the old BSA shaped tanks like this one

They are much more readily available too. I'm wondering if you could get one to fit? Anyone tried this?

You can make anything you want fit. It just takes money and time.

Most older beezas had narrower frame tubes, the tank's frame tunnel will need the most work, as will fuel taps.

That tank is modeled after either a B44 Shooting Star or an A65 Firebird Scrambler. Neither of which were alloy (B44 = fiberglass, A65 = Steel, in two sizes)
I'm not the authority on BSAs, I'm sure there are some "fabled" one-offs made for racing/shows that had tanks like that. I'm not familiar with any that had alloy tanks with that same styling.

I got the A65 tank for my Beez off eBay for a whopping $80 US.

Well that'll involve a lot of work and alloy fabrication. I have neither the tools nor the skills so that's another idea on the scrap pile! Ah well back to the drawing board. Thanks for the reply though.

ally tank

I take it you've visited 'The Tank Shop' site ? I would also like an ally tank but without having to get a new seat and make loads of adjustments ect Not a cheap thing to want to do!

Try here: http://www.tabaker.co.uk/ Good luck with delivery dates though!!!

The seat was shortened to suit by me therefore no costs involved.

It took about a year to get my tank, still waiting on the cowl, 1 year 3 months and counting.

Nick,

Don't forget, those alloy tanks are delicate too. I have one for my Norton and have to be very careful with it. I do like the look though!

Alloys look cool but I've heard ( as stated ) they're kinda delicate . One little mistake and POP! A dent or something . I've considered a good fiber or carbon one . But still cons to them too.
