So I bought some knee pads for my thrux at my local dealership, one sticks and one doesn't. I have tried extra adhesive but to no avail. Not sure what else to do...

Anyone had the same experience? If so how did you fix it? :???:

You need to clean the tank of all wax, grease, etc, and apply in warm conditions. If the one has not stuck, there is probably some grease or wax on the surface--you might try cleaning the tank with denatured alcohol, then warm the pad with a hair dryer or heat gun and re-stick it. Most important thing is a clean surface and warm temperature.

I had the same problem. Finally peeled them back off, took a heat gun (not a hair dryer, that didn't work!) wiped the sticky side with a rag soaked in a brake-clean solvent, cleaned the tank really well, then heated the glue side of the pad with the heat gun. When they were so hot I could hardly hold them, I stuck them in place. Been there ever since!

You're right, they should be called "just for looks" pads! I've thought about fabbing some more substantial heat shields about the size and shape of the 916 heel guards. Hmmm, a touch of carbon fiber maybe...nah.

My knees grip the pads easily. What are you guys, like two inches tall?

I first cleaned the tank with WD40, it works as a mild solvent for things like adhesive. I then washed the bike with a mild detergent and then I cleaned the tank with isapropyl alcohol. Once the tank was completely dry I stuck the knee pads on and then rolled it with a "J" roller. You can get a J roller at any home depot. This made sure that there were no air pockets under the pads. I also did this once the weather was a little warmer. Juan
