Stunned all the way...

Hellow there fellows!happy to write to you again after a month or so...To get into the interesting stuff with not much saying,i will just say that i live in Athens, and in the whole city there are 5 registered thruxtons...i am really very happy to be one of the 5 owners!to conclude, about 3 days ago i took my thruxton for a winter ride with tors fitted k&n filter and different main jets... when coming back home from the 30 mile outbound city run i get into a groop of bikers with completely different bikes comparing to mine(gixxers,r1s,r6s,675s and so on total of about 20 motorcycles...)from the time they saw the bike (i was pretty sure most of them did not really know what it is...) they kept overtaking and braking all the time.taking advantage of my new tors i was really happy to do some twists all they way home...the guys saw that maybe it was a classic bike but it was going pretty good until 210 kms and to say the truth it was really amazing seeing this beauty take out some difficult turns with ease(i was surprised also!).not to say much more they stop me at about 15 kms later to discover the bike and congratulate me for my choise.actually one guy about 45-50 years old said:i really cannot believe that there are still people who believe that motorcycles like these can keep up.and it actually kept ap really good.i am very proud to be a classic bike owner.Happy riding

Great story and always nice to hear from the other side of the Atlantic.

You really took corners at 210kph?

Talk about pucker factor...

no,i was talking about my top speed(ok true about 200)indicated 210
i think it was something like 140-150 at the turns but still really fast for a classic comparing i could barely take the same turns with 20 kms more on my friends 600rr

That's really excellent.

Whenever I hear the, "my thrux out-twistied the sportbikes" stories I believe them. Mainly because most thrux owners seem to be more educated on how to ride better and faster.

I think that education has come from years of riding the bikes that led to the development of the new sportsbikes. The older riders amongst us will REALLY remember what crap brakes used to be - not what the new riders consider crap brakes. Most of us at some time have cut our teeth, leathers, knees, elbows and backsides on bikes that most would run away from. It's the same with cars - there was a TV programme in the UK some while ago when they put some youngsters (who thought they were brilliant drivers in their spangly new BMWs) into older cars (60s and 70s models) that weren't loaded with all the safety features that allow the driver to be unaware of the real driving conditions. I've driven a 1934 Singer Le Mans and 1960s Vespas - you have to plan ahead to do a relatively simple thing like stopping in a straight line! The new stuff (like our retro-styled Trumpets) are a relative treat - and you know what you can get away with. So many riders (not all - before the lynch-mobs get typing) who get into trouble today are new to two wheels in their late thirties or forties.
