Question Air box removal pros?

What are the pros of airbox removal for a thruxton? I have seen some dyno results on ratnet that indicate airbox removal does relatively little in terms of increasing horsepower. Can anyone tell me if removing the airbox and adding a new intake is worth the trouble/$$$? Thanks in advance!

Some refer to me as a pro... others claim I'm a schmoe, so take this with a gain of salt: 5-10% increase in HP and torque is very common with the air box eliminated. More with a hot exhaust system. The billet manifolds is another matter altogether. Lots of debate about those. Personally, I think having to hack-up your side covers is reason enough to say Nah.

I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone who claimed little or no increase in seat-of-the-pants performance with the air box gone and stock manifolds.

/Mike

evil, see this thread from the tech talk forum and the 'great source of info" thread: http://www.triumphrat.net/twins-tech...-and-cons.html

If you're into the sensory pleasures of bikes, the sound at WOT without the airbox is worth the bit of trouble to remove the stock airflow. Seat of pants gives me a bit of hp, too.

Good luck with this...s
