Before trying to refit the case to the motor, you have to wind the kickstarter crank one full turn counter-clockwise so that the spring will 1) have the right amount of pressure, 2) not rub on the kickstart ratchet pinion when it is all together. When attempting to fit the case to the motor, you should hold the kickstarter crank so that it angles at about 11 o'clock. If the case hangs up about 1/4" from being fully fitted, it is most probably the kickstart quadrant hitting the quadrant stop peg, so slowly rotate your kickstart crank more counter-clockwise while pushing inwards on the case. As soon as the quadrant clears the stop peg, the case will slide fully home.
