Talking Bonneville just Finished w/Pics

I've been working on this for quite some time. Understand I only had a frame, title, engine and gas tank all considered junk. My end result is not a restoration or a chop so I think most will like what I have done. It is "build with what you have". Yamaha front end, Harley rear wheel and foot pegs, Yamaha R6 rear caliper and much alum. work to make all the pieces needed to tie it together. There are so many pieces that it has been called a "Johnnie Cash Special", ready for the track.

Some WIP shots:

VERY NIFTY!

I love hand-built "bitsa" bikes, no two alike.

what's the finish on the frame ? i've been considering many options including nickle plate 'cept that defeats the finished result as being done by me and only me .

To quote Chevy Chase, "I LIKE IT"! Beautiful job. How does it run and ride? If I ever get through putting my 68 T120 back together in stock trim, I want to do something like that with my next project. I have a 70 frame and a set of T-140 cases and crank, a Routt 800cc cylinder and some JOMO cams. I've got some stock wheels but I want to go with some alloy wheels and some lighter forks. What kind of Yamaha front end is that? There is a machinest here in town that builds wheel assemblys for flat trackers with disc brake of his own design that is a work of art. Now I've just got to win the lottery so I can afford all the trick stuff I don't have yet.

Thanks for the compliments. The frame is painted. PPG light gray epoxy with Dodge bright silver/clearcoated. Since I do everything myself touchup isn't a problem. I decided on silver because it makes a bike look lighter. The frame is a 1971 and the only major change is that someone had lowered the upper seat rails (notice the braze near the oil cap. they buchered the rear tubes so I had to correct all that. I made a jig and only kept the front of the swingarm. Lenghtening 1 1/4" and widening 2" to get the HD wheel to work (I had 5 of them). The front end is a Yamaha XS650. You have to make a new stem but it can press fit inside the lower Yamaha tree as the have a hollow stem. It presses in from the very bottom, through the tree. The engine is the expensive part since I replaced every bearing and bushing, new oil pump, reground crank, pistons and bore, valves, guides, springs, pushrods, electrics, new Johnson cams, mikuni carbs, and more and then 1/2 the transmission hadn't been upgraded from the early exploder version of the 5 speed. In all just over $2000.00 in the engine alone with me doing the labor. I'm not complaining, I like it too. Ready to do another.

Ahhh the seat. Now that is always a problem! Comfort wise the foam is fine and the seat is pretty good, maybe better than a stock seat. The lower height scrunches you up a bit more so that is a negitive. I really wanted a glass tailed dirt track seat but since it will see some 2 up use I just used the KISS method as I did for the whole bike. The seat is super light. .090 alum base with foam and cover.
