T100C Fuel Tank

Just starting to re-assemble the '66 T100C when , all of a sudden .........major setback I get the tank returned from the painter with a bunch of pin holes blown in the bottom!! twenty years of sitting in the barn with condensation. Now I need a new tank or carve the bottom out of this one and try to re-fabricate it . I am finding the 1966 style small tank difficult to find , it was changed in 1967 to a three point system with the big tab at the back, this one is the small made for export tank 2 1/2 gallon. for the 500 , I think a 1965 may fit physically but '66 was the first with the eyebrow badge and maybe different in that respect. If anyone has any input here I would be grateful , The bike has matching numbers so I'd like to keep it original , Woody I know yours is a '67 but if you have a spare '66 sculling around let me know mate, It would be green with cream stripes, Thanks Steve

hey mango , sorry , when i bought my bike back in '72 it was a flat-tracker converted back to street . tank seat and fender are fiberglass .

you might try http://www.britishonly.com/ they have quite a few old tanks .

also maybe http://mcctriumph.com/ in searching for parts , they seem to have a good inventory of used available at really good prices .

when you say , just got back from the painters , did it come back painted or rejected because of the holes ?

T100C tank

Yes, thank you Woody I'll try those links . The painter sent it back as soon as the bead blasting or whatever he was doing came through the bottom, he's a good guy. I have a fabricator who will carve the tank open and re-build it but I can't even honestly ask him for a quote because until he cuts it up he does not know what hes getting into!!? Thats the way I will go of course if I can't find one in the next couple of weeks. It's a few hundred bucks of surprise money whichever way I go but what are you going to do? thanks for the input . "but what are you going to do?"

me i'm restoring , refurbishing , rebuiling my youth , which was my triumph street tracker

lol , looking at my "selective service system status card " dated 1974 (no i didn't burn mine ) framed on the wall , i weighed 150 lbs and my black triumph t-shirt (small) hugged my tight body as my shoulder length blonde hair flowed from the back of my helmet .

that bike was my persona and i want it back the way it was only better .

ohhhhh sorry , you mean my tank ? i'm caswelling it so i can run modern fuel

been teaching myself fiberglass over the past few weekends . i need a new seat .

If the holes are just on the bottom, i would think you could fiberglass just the bottom, and coat the inside, or just cut out the bad spots and weld in some new metal.....There's always Ebay, but that can be a real buyer nightmare!

Find someone that has been restoring antique car's, and see what they think....Good Luck!
