Cool T140ES speedo

Hi
My 1982 Veglia speedo indicates at 3000 rpm in top gear between 30 - 70 mph !!!!!, and just as bad at other speeds / revs, can anything be done to damp the variations ????

Veglia really isnt very good but that is a bit extreme. If you lubricate the cable, I would suggest using oil, e.g. gearbox oil on the lower 2/3. The Veglia speedo drive isnt very strong and the 'stiction' from a greased cable may break it. Check the condition of the speedo drive, they are a p-o-s and possibly the worst thing on the bike, if it isnt broken it may be worn out. Be very careful when replacing the back wheel that the drive cable is straight out of the gearbox with no bends as it goes towards the front of the bike. I have a box of broken ones in my garage, all the same fault - the tang has broken off the driving plate. Must have ridden thousands of miles without a speedo, so I memorised speeds for gears; 3000revs in third is 30mph, 3000revs in fourth is 40mph, 3000revs in fifth is 50mph and 4000revs in fifth is 70mph. All a bit appoximate, but may stop you triggering a Gatso.
