I am so confused.... I bought a T120R that was advertised as a 72, well yes I believe it was built in 72, it was sold and titled as a 73. I also have the chrome fenders of the 73 instead of the gold painted ones from 72. So what is it? what should I call it? I have the parts book for the 72, are these bikes identical for parts other than paint and stuff. Mine is a 4spd, I guess one of the last. VIN#T120RCG50056

1st letter after the model No. is the month code !!

A,B,C,D,E,G,H,J,K,N,P,X.

2nd letter is the year starting 1969

C,D,E,G,H,J,K,N,P,X,A,B.

so your bike is March 72

got this info off here a while ago but can`t remember who posted it, so its thanks to them really

Keith Moore, an independant shop owner and generally good guy who has been doing this for quite a while has spoken on this topic often. Keith claims he has seen many many bikes that were new, but didn't have the parts exactly as a book stated it should be. He claims, (and I think it credible) that bikes were built with parts on hand. One model speedo was used until used up, then the new one, (or fender or whatever), was used for assembly. If one more box of the old ones came to light it was used, or if spares were on hand and new production was behind, then spares were used up. For shows and judging it seems you better go with the book, but for me, if it works and looks good to you who cares chrome or paint etc. Put oil in it and ride it!

Hi guys, again all good stuff Your bike is March 1972 as a '72 season. Index number CG50001 started 1st March 1972 and so yours was one of the first. Models built then were T120R, T120V and TR6RV. Roy.

Absolutely, I had one. Mine was a '76 Bonnie, bought in 1980 with just 2000miles on the cl;ock, from it's 70+ year old first owner. All paintwork was 1973 colours. After the sit-in finished many bikes were put together with whatever was immediately available. I too have heard stories of this being common practice in earlier years.

well I,m glad that they ran out of the gold painted fenders and gave mine the chrome ones. I actually prefer the colour scheme of 73 over 72 anyways. take it easy and thanks for the replies.
