Fork Seal Removal?

Hey guys,

68 Bonnie here, want to replace oil seal in the excluder sleeve nut... How to get the old one out and new one in? Also, does that dampening sleeve have to be in any certain location and how to you move it, one is covering that tiny hole in the bottom end of the stanchion.

Thanks

Cool

need to remove the forks or slider to replace the oil seals. the damper is secured by a small fastener in the bottom of the slider.

The damper sleeve has to be fitted with the narrow part over the holes. How often I have found one stanchion fitted with the sleeve one way and the other the opposite!!! The idea of the waisted part is to restrict the oil. Once you have removed the fork seal holder remove the seal with a drift from the threaded end, this will need a reasonable amount of force so I use a club hammer. To replace new seals I have made a tool from solid the same diameter as the seal. Push seal into the holder springside down, pop in tool, place seal holder in soft jaw vice and close the vice until seal is fully home. This method makes sure that the seal is seated squarely and not damaged.Dont forget the steel washers when replacing, the large one to keep the spring from the seal and the thin one goes on top of the fork tube.
