I am new to the forum, so please forgive me if I do or say something inappropriate.
I am the proud owner of a newly acquired 1978 T140E Triumph 750 Bonneville, equipped with a SPARX electronic ignition. I recently took possession of the bike, and am working to perfect its performance. Currently, it is running rather rough, and will not idle even after warming up, riding for 10 minutes, etc. As a part of troubleshooting, I wish to check the carburetor balance. Per the Triumph workshop manual, p/n 99-0983, as well as the Haynes manual for 650 and 750 Twins, Manual #122, it is required I remove one of the spark pug leads, then adjust the carburetor for the opposite cylinder. My question is as follows: Do I need to arrange to ground the removed plug such that it continues to fire while I perform these adjustments? I am concerned that by not doing so, I will damage or render inoperative the SPARX electronic ignition system.
Thanks to all for any replies.
