anyone wanna trade a twin carb bonne head

im about done with this twin carb stuff. i just want to ride my bike. i will trade my 1968 bonneville 650 head with carbs for anything that will bolt on to it with ONE carb that will let it run. i dont like multi carb set ups and i dont care about speed or performance from the bike i have a sport bike for that. like i said i just want to ride it

Performance gain on the twin carb setup is minimal anyway. In fact, a TR6 will take a Bonneville off the line ... Bonnie will outrun it, but not by much ... I don't have a head for you, but you'll come up with something. In fact, I think someone makes an intake for your head to convert to single carbie.

Good luck!!

Sorry, there's no kit to convert a Bonnie head to a single carb. Because of the splayed inlets it's not a practical proposition anyway, so you need to get a suitable head. Good luck, IMO it's well worth it.

i just spied one a couple minutes ago on ebay.
under triumph parts, key in 'head'..
has beat up exhaust ports, but i'm sure a competent machine shop could rethread/insert/correct..

item #350078021057

no bids yet... -j

there's this: 280245136149

and there are a bunch of folks around the country who have PILES of parts for the unit 650s. There are even a bunch of folks who sell stuff on ebay all the time who always have piles of bikes they're parting out. Shoot 'queeng' an email and see if they have anything. I would shy away from that 'project' head, though. Someone will have something for you. Then, sell off that Bonneville head ... There's always SOMEONE wanting a dual-carb head ...

I must be crabby this morning because this post just hit me wrong.

I know a few people who have went to a single carb for personal preference, I guess I don't have a problem with that.

But it's sounding like you can't get the bike to work with the twin carbs.

SO exactly what do you use the Triumph for? Riding to the bar on "bike night?" How can you not care how it runs? Does your Suzuki only have one carb?

i do care how it runs, that is my POINT i want it to run right. what is the use of a bike that is realy fast with the twin carbs that only goes 5 or 6 mi then fouls out and then i gotta swap plugs around or change them out. there is no bike nights in northern new york and i have the only triumph in my town and no one around me knows what a amal carburator is. i would absolutly love to get the twins to work. but i would also like to get the thing to where i could trust it to get to the corner store and back.

There are dozens of details that all contribute to a twin cylinder engine with 2 carbs either running right, or wrong. It is not always the carbs' fault, but they definitely have a large share on the punchlist.

I'd say you ought to buy a single carb head from a reputable dealer and sell your 2-carb head here on the forum or on e-bay.

Otherwise, you need to start at "Point A" and work your way to "Point Z" on the troubleshooting chart in the shop manual.

-battery condition
-valve adjustment
-worn carb parts
-mismatched carb internals
-timing
-air filtration or lack of
-worn pistons/rings and/or valves/guides
-coils & other ignition electrics breaking down

etc., etc., etc.

i used 3/16 in rods cut 4in long to sync the slides. i am using 220 main jets .106 needles, 928/#3 slides. the air mix screws are turned out 1 1/2 turns. the floats are down 2mm from the lip of the float bowl. the crossover tube is new and tight fitting. ive used b9 b8 and b7 plugs with the same result. rockers are all adjusted to .004tho. i have a boyer ignition and a constant 12.85v to it. the ignition coil is also new. the problem im having is that the left cylinder is fouling out and the right is lean the right side will foul out to the point where it dosnt fire at all. if i missed something pleas let me know. i was using k@n pods but that seamed to choke it. my exhaust is also open. half to wide open is ok it seams to be messing up when going around town.
