left the key on - lost one cylinder

Last year a friend left my key on and burned up one of the old coils. It was obvious with it's pool of black goo that came from it. Anyway ... last year isn't the issue.

Last night, I accidentally left the key on for a while. After a quick re-charge, the bike only runs on one cylinder. I seriously doubt it's a coil ... neither were warm last night when I noticed the key ...

Just wondering what the most likely 'dead' component is. Condenser or Points?

Maybe I'll wire that 'red' indicator to be an ignition light ... the oil pressure sender is no good anyway ...

Thanks in advance!!

Leaving the ignition on is most likely to damage the coil.
Second to that is the points my be burned.
It is extremely unlikely to have had any ill effect on the capacitor.

With power on see if you have 12volts on teh live side of teh coil.(if not you have blown a fuse somewhere) Then check the breaker side to a good earth. There should be less than half a volt across the points ( providing they are closed). To check that the points are not welded together turn the motor over slowly, at some point you should see 12 volts on the breaker side of the points.
If this all looks good most likely problem is the insulation in the HT winding has broken down. Swap coils and if the fault moves with the coil you know what to do

nevermind ... I was attempting to make a mountain-sized problem out of a molehill-sized oversight. I also had to remove the horn and manufacture a new horn bracket last night. Apparently, I accidentally pulled the connector off of one of the condensers. Oops ... all is well now ...
