t100 primary chain tensioner question/help

bike: '69 T100S

it has been years since my bike had been back together..
now i am unsure of the installation of the of the spring steel/rubber tensioner under the primary chain. there is a cutaway portion on the one of the steel ends, when viewed from above or below.
question:
the cutaway end, (Narrow end), does it go on the pivot bar behind the stator, or is it the other way around?
my haynes manual's diagram of this is unclear.

thanks in advance, john

hey nhoj , i don't have my primary apart at the moment , but i have a tensioner in hand and i'm pretty sure the cutout part goes forward to clear the stator . also the rubber strip is offset and would be to far outboard if you had it turned around .

it should be pretty obvious when you go to install it .

thanks woody.
that is how it is installed right now.
it was my best guess..
but i must say next to winding a kickstart return spring,
aligning the tensioner's rod with the adjuster hole in the cover,
is one of my most dreaded chores on a t100..

i was starting to second guess myself. -j

Yeah ... that tensioner is a pretty piss-poor design in the 500. That's why so many primary covers are cracked at the adjuster hole ...

Anyway, I haven't been in the primary since last year, but as I recall it's pretty obvious when you have it on the right way. I think the 'rubber' stuff is off-center and will only line up (kinda) with the primary chain in one direction.

I know this much ... you'll definitely figure it out ... there seems to be very little inside the unit 500 that's 'magic' ... much less complex ...
