AMAL Carb : 689/205 Carb vs 376 series.

Am new to this forum and to classic Triumphs. I'm English, living in CA, so I thought I find myself a piece of history! Bought a '63 Thunderbird that seems to be a bit of a hybrid. Has a mix of T'bird and Trophy parts. Still it's in great shape and I love riding it...

The carb on the bike now is a 689/205 Amal. The parts list for the '63 650s says type 376. Any ideas what the 689 is from? Should I bother chasing down the original carb?

Thanks for you help.

Why bother? If it's running well it's not worth risking poor performance from another carb that might be original to the bike but not perform as well.
Just my two pennies worth!

My 56 TR6 also said 376 stock but has a 389/22 on it right now, which is quite a bit bigger carb. The 689 is the opposite of a 389 on dual carb setups. My bike was a race bike in the mojave dessert back some 40 years ago and so im sure that the 689 was put on your bike for better performance.
