Oil in frame questions

I came across a great deal on a 72 oil in frame 650. What do you know about these oil in frame models? Any big issues?

Smile 1971 Bonneville

I bought a new Bonneville in 1971 and put 24,000 miles on it in 3 years and had no problems except the horn vibrated loose. It didn't leak ONE drop of oil. I took it to Florida and back in 1973 and my total gas bill down and back was $22.00. I averaged 65 MPG. It was a good bike. I changed the oil every 1000 miles and took care of it. I paid around $1595 or so and sold it for $1000 in 1974. Pochie

Since she's an old one, most issues will be specific to that particular bike, and more appropriately, how well POs kept up with the maintenance.

In general, the OIF bikes are viewed with the same nose-in-the-air regard as the dry frame bikes. And the first two years (71 and 72) seem to meet with the most disdain.

I have a '79 OIF. I remind the purists that it's not an OIF bike...it's a Rob North-framed bike.
