what to do with breather oil

My 61 T120 spews oil from the breather along with the air of course. I notice that in subsequent years, the factory discharged the filth out the back of the rear fender. Don't follow a Triumph too close!!!Oil -air separators are too large to comfortably mount. What do others do with the breather tube?

I've been wondering re that myself. I have a '67TR6 and a '68 Bonneville. Most of my rides are 25 miles or less. I don't know how much oil is spewed on that ride, so I'm going to put some saran wrap with rubber bands around the exit tube and see how much is collected. I usually ride 12.5 miles to a restaurant..stop and ride back. I'll check it after each leg and let you know. I may go this evening or later this week. If the bag falls off, I'll try it with a metal clip to hold it. Pochie

Traditionally this was directed on the rear chain, usually near the gearbox sprocket. Over enthusiastic breathing would end up covering the left hand side of your rear tyre

You could make yourself a oil separator. Use the filter media from a husky separator and make your own catch can. Like this you could mount it wherever you like.

Just an abservation from my limited experience but is there really that much blow by that you need to worry about it? I put the long tube along my rear fender and I don't think much oil comes out of it. Granted, I don't wathc it all that much while I'm riding. It should just be a vent tube for the case to breath. If there is oil comming out shouldn't that be a problem?

Always willing to learn something new about these things.

Smile Scientific Study done

I finally got my ride in between rain storms. I duct-taped a small plastic bottle on the end of the breather tube. I rode a total of 17 miles. After taking the bottle off and emptying it on a piece of wood....there was only water about the size of a dime. No oil. This is on a '67 TR6..newly rebuilt engine with about 175 miles on. Hope this aleviates any worry re polluting with oil drippings, which is what I was concerned with. Pochie

a very good reason not to plumb the breather back into the oil tank , like mentioned in a recent post and as someone had mentioned that they had done

That was me.

Food for thought there...
I am hoping that the water is the vapour that comes out the oil tank breather.
I'll keep an eye out for evidence of water in the oil.

I suppose another option is to route it into the primary drive case - it'll end up on the chain anyway.
