Kick start won't rotate

In the early stages of attempting to start a 140V that hasn't been started since 83. I gave it a bath and started poking around to see the basics of what it needs. I rotated the kick start to see if the motor was seized. I got it down smoothly to the point where it would start to rotate the motor, and then nothing. I am guessing the rings are rusted against the cylinders. What do you think? Ideas to "break" them loose? I'd like to have them loose before attempting to pull the top end off.

You might want to take the plugs out and squirt some oil in there and let it sit for a day then try, otherwise, I'd pull the head and see what's going on.

Better than lube, use diesel fuel oil.

just a point on safety here.....
If you're going to use diesel fuel or other penetrant to free up the pistons, please make sure you let it drain via the crankcase plug, and flush (eg with used oil) afterwards. You don't want this stuff in your oil, or firing under compression/heat when you start the bike.

Good to know that you all agree that I am at least headed in the right direction.

On a side note, I love the idea that I can talk to people all over the world about this motorcycle that is in my garage in Massachusetts USA. Hearing from fellow riders in Austrialia, France, Pakistan, UK, England and Africa is just absolutely enjoyable. Of course talking to my local Mass and CONUS friends is always fun too. I feel like you all will be riding with me on my frist ride with this bike.

Tbox, have you joined the Mass BIA? If not, you should come up to the Spring meet in a few weeks. Lots of bikes, food, music, and fun.
