Can someone tell me what constituits a Concours bike? What is the defines a bike to be a concours bike? Is there a place that you can get your bike evaluated for this?

Although this is car related (its from Pebble Beach) it gives you a basic idea...

A concours d’elegance is, quite literally, an automotive contest
of elegance.

To contend in the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, an automobile must be a well preserved or accurately restored vehicle still quite capable of doing what it was meant to do—be driven. It will almost certainly have some historic value—perhaps in its day it served to debut new technology or new styling trends or it has an amazing racing record. And it will be rare—possibly a singular example of a special chassis bearing a respected coachbuilder’s art.

A VERY well kept or restored car or bike can be entered in a regular Concours, but it has to be better than the day it rolled out of the factory!

The Half Moon Bay event was last week, if your interested in seeing what was there, click HERE for pictures (NOT DIAL UP FRIENDLY)

I disagree that a concours bike should be "better than the day it rolled out of the factory".

Well maintained, clean, totally original or nominally refurbished bikes can score much higher than over-restored bikes in shows where the judges criteria are toward originality and not restoration.

In any case, a "concours" bike should be as close to original as possible whether restored or refurbished. No Cheng Shin tires on a classic Brit Bike, no Hella H4 headlight conversion, no electronic ignition, etc.

Is it not possible to have the original air in the tires? And if so, should this not be given an extra consideration in the judging? Just kidding, but when I got my '68 Lambretta it had the original tires on it, actually in really good shape. I wisely replaced them, but only kept the original spare tire, I've always regretted not keeping the other CEAT original tires.

By the way, does anyone know, did the 1970 Triumphs come with a toolkit, and where would it be located on the bike if it did come with one?

If you believe or plan to have a 'correctly restored' or 'mint original' judged, go check out the Antique Motorcycle Club of America. They will judge the bike right down to the correct fasteners, wiring harness and anything else that represents the bike as it came off the showroom floor. That aslo means no upgrades, even if it means a safer or more dependable ride.
Now, keep in mind, these judges are no way snobs. If it is your goal, then they will tell you like it is. Currently a original bike with original parts and paint, regardless of condition, have been the rave equal to a correct restoration. They have chapters and meets at most popular antique and vintage meets.

Original wiring harness and cables is not as hard as ORIGINAL EXACT ROUTING of each and every cable and wire!

A bolt that is three threads too long, protruding out of a nut instead of standing just proud, is a points-loser.

Those AMCA guys are amazing. WAAAAAAY over my head.
