Hi all. In my quest for a leaner T140 i have hit the buffers for a couple of parts. I intend to remove both speedo and tach and fit a smaller speedo. I,d like to fit a smaller front mudguard in either aluminium my prefered choice to match the rear or stainless steel . I don,t mind a longer guard to cut down but ideally i,d like to do without stays. I,ve looked around the net but not much luck, albeit i,m a little short on knowledge of what might fit.
Can anyone throw any light on a source for either/both?
T140D short mudguard might do. Add a 79 on (?) centre brace and also buy the W shaped strengthener if you can find one.
Then fit new CNC fork caps if you don't want the mudguard stay mounts
Afaik the Harris bikes also had a shorter mudguard
Speedo wise
If you get the right ratio you might be able to use the existing drive, or stick a sensor on a wheel and go electronic
Like Dave M says - get the later centre brace - then you can cut down a front mudguard to whatever you want ( i have done it several times and i don't use the additional strengthener - never found it necessary) bottom stay not required on a short mudguard
speedo - look at the Koso DB01r digital - about 100 squid does speedo / tacho / idiot lights
Greetings all, if indeed that is a 1975 right hand gear change, disk front comical rear cherokee red/ ice white model, do you know how RARE that model is?? just before you go chopping it up.
cheers!
Thanks all for the useful info. The speedo idea sound good, i never gave it a thought to use a GPS derived unit. I shall dig around for a 140D mudguard, hopefully available in the UK.
Mandalin you are correct with my model, i knew they were only produced with the 724cc engine for a short period but how rare i,m not sure, hopefully more valuable? But i,m not chopping it up as all the standard parts are stowed away, only putting my small twist on it.
The brace the T140D 'guard was bolted was first fitted to the ('75) T160. T140D and TSX's both had shorter front 'guards and both were sold in GB. Especially if you fit an ally 'guard, note the various plastic and rubber anti-vibe washers that were fitted as standard between the brace and even the standard steel 'guards. If you do go with an ally 'guard, also consider mounting it to the brace with black plastic numberplate screws rather than steel screws/bolts?
'Guards fitted to Harris twins are (were) stainless, incorporate the mounting to the sliders but aren't as substantial as the brace.
Only early '73 "750's" were fitted with the 724 cc. block (75 mm. bore), all later are 744 cc. 76 mm. bore. '75 twins are DK61000 - GK62239.
Quickest and cheapest way to shed weight on a bike is to start with the rider.
