71 t120r grearbox success
To help the other owners of a less desirable year model triumph,.....
I'd thought i would just mention to anyone out there who is rebuilding a 71-72 t120 gearbox to remove the shift detent spring and use a plunger.
For days i stuffed around trying to get the inner cover on with no success with finding gears.
From previous posts on here many others have had the same issue with installing the inner cover back on (as the manuals say...."in fouth gear" etc).
I read back over some notes Mecchanica made up for my model telling me to get rid of the detent spring which triumph used in 71-72 to save money and install a plunger.
I had a few old bultaco plungers lying around which funnily enough,.....were a perfect fit. The english must be related to the spanish after all. All you have to do is drill out the existing boss under the gearbox, and start tapping.
You really notice the difference when changing gear,...its a #@$@ more positive!! and you can actually feel the gears???
Also,....put the inner cover back on in first gear,.....its heaps easier!!!!
