T160 advance / retard unit needed

I'm changing my t160 back to points after problems with the rita unit. I've managed to get hold of a points plate but am stuck on the advance retard mechanism. Can anyone help?
thanks
steve

What kind of problems are you having with the RITA? I know some folks prefer points because they're familiar, but EI is great. Bad RITA unit? Bad battery? Bad charging system?

Don't have my reference handy at the moment, but I think I remember an article by Mitch Klempf saying that often people assume the electronic ignition is the problem (when they normally do not fail that often) and it is usually a simple fix somewhere close by. I'm not the expert electrician...

Had a commando with boyer, The starter motor took all the power and didn't leave enogh for the boyer. The Rita's gone **** up and a second spare unit doesn't work either. I've got a back plate and points set up that I would rather use. I've got a t140 as well on points and it starts 1st time everytime so would like to put the t160 back to points. Someone who has fitted a boyer must have a spare advance retard sitting around.
thanks

The best setup in my opinion is points, because you can then start the bike (older twins) with a flat battery. As an additional improvement you can get CD ignition units that just pass a few milliamps through the points giving them an expacted life of over 35K miles. These cost about £25 from some Enfield dealers. The great thing about them is if the electronics fail you can revert to normal points by changing over 3 push fit connectors. Making the bike much more 'survivable'.

Digital ignition systems

Had a bad time with my Boyer system and was going to go back to points when I was given this address :- trispark.com.au

The guy who owns this is a Triumph nut and has built his own digital ignition system that works. He now sells these units world wide. They use and need low voltage to trigger unlike other units. The units are for British motorcycles both twins and triples.

Have covered many miles with a tri-spark unit fitted, bike starts first time every time.

For EI systems, TriSpark is reputed to be the best.

Jaguartvr, I hope your not expecting your T160 to start as easily as your T140, are you? That my friend is a very rare and unexpected thing, IMHO.
Roy.

t160

Managed to get a new advance/retard unit and the bikes back on the road. Carbs were cleaned and it runs great for about 20 miles then develops a misfire that gets progessivley worse so more tinkering needed.
It starts 1st or 2nd kick and starts straight up on the electric start. So glad that I didn't go back to the electronic ignition.
I had decided to sell the T160 and keep the T140 but after riding the Trident I find it goes, stops and handles better. Also being tall I find it more comfortable. It's just those little voices in my head that keeps saying "It will end in tears"
